The Department of Business Administration organized a webinar on ‘Be an Entrepreneur Rather than a Job Seeker in Covid-19 Situation” through the Facebook Live on July 1, 2020. Dr. Mohammad Naved Ahmed was present as the keynote speaker in this webinar. Mr. Ahmed is presently serving as a managing partner, Hasib Electronics, Miyako Appliance Bangladesh. Academically, he has obtained the degree of Doctor of Business Administration from IBA, University of Dhaka; he also obtained a professional degree of M.eBiz from IUJ, Japan.
The keynote speaker highlighted four alternative criteria for being a successful entrepreneur: product & service selection, to set the value of the product, product development, & generating new business ideas. He also mentioned procedures for starting the new business idea; it may be very small like - restaurant business, online salon shop, web content developments, etc. He emphasized on opportunity recognition, little is known about how entrepreneurs evaluate opportunities especially in this COVID-19 period.
He stated that the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) may create recruitment problems across the world. And this will dramatically slash global workers' incomes. But we have to take it positively; this is a great opportunity for us to start a new business. He mentioned that a lot of business has already been launched on the issue of coronavirus disease. He gave the example of Walton; Walton has already started manufacturing ventilators to combat this virus. He also mentioned that ride-sharing, Uber, was also launched in the face of economic catastrophe. He suggested initiating ‘contactless service with business guarantee’ for any trade or business that people would be taking on in the future. At the end of the speech, he highlighted the strengths of fresh graduates; he also revealed an obstacle - the fund, But he clarified that in these cases, it is more important to generate new business ideas, if you have a good business idea, even the ICT Ministries of the Government of Bangladesh is ready to assist you.
